IAN IRELAND

Programme Leadership for Complex Change

Green on the dashboard.
Red in the corridor.

When the reporting says one thing and the people say another, the programme is already in trouble. I find out why, reset it, and get it delivered. Twenty-five years of doing exactly that across Europe and Asia — in banks, and now beyond them.

TRANSFORM | SIMPLIFY | DELIVER

When to call me

If three of these sound familiar, the programme is in trouble. The reporting just hasn’t noticed yet.

  1. 01Requirements are still unsigned. Build carries on regardless.
  2. 02Every vendor has a schedule. No two of them agree.
  3. 03The RAG status hasn’t moved in months, and nobody finds that odd.
  4. 04Decisions are made, minuted, and quietly unmade a fortnight later.
  5. 05Governance reports on the programme instead of deciding for it.
  6. 06The go-live date is fixed. The scope, apparently, is not.

What I do

Four things. Judged by what changes, not by what gets produced.

Programme and project recovery

A plan people believe, a date that holds, and reporting that tells you what is actually happening.

Executive judgement under pressure

Clear decisions when every option is uncomfortable — and the follow-through that makes them stick.

Governance, PMO/TMO and operating models

Governance that decides rather than reports, and a PMO that earns its seat at the table.

AI-enabled delivery and programme intelligence

Earlier warning of where a programme really stands, so leaders act on facts rather than status colours.

How I work

Diagnose. Reset. Deliver.

  1. 01 · Transform

    Diagnose

Find the real constraint. It is rarely the one on the risk log. Organisational, governance and behavioural blockers first; the plan second.

  2. 02 · Simplify

    Reset

Cut the programme back to what can be delivered and who decides it. Fewer moving parts, named owners, one version of the plan.

  3. 03 · Deliver

    Deliver

Run it to the date. Governance that decides, reporting that tells the truth, and a team that can carry on without me.

Recognised for rapidly identifying the underlying organisational, governance and behavioural constraints preventing delivery — often before they become visible through conventional programme reporting.

What I’m building

I build the tools I wish I’d had on every programme.

Alongside client work, I co-found ventures that use AI to solve business and transformation problems.

Programme intelligence

AI that reads plans, risks and budgets and shows where a programme really stands. Agents surface. Humans decide.

A personal execution system

For senior professionals in transition — the structure a programme gets, applied to the person running it.

The method, written down. A ten-domain diagnostic, a plain decision to recover, re-scope, pause or close, and the steps from stabilisation to a clean handover.

About

Operator, not theorist.

I have spent twenty-five years on large, regulated, multi-country change in financial services — first in Europe, then in Asia. UBS, Barclays Capital, Standard Chartered, Eastspring. KYC across 32 countries. A programme in more than 40 markets. A data transformation that needed stabilising before it could be finished.

I have sat in the steering committees where the slides were green and the corridor conversation was not. The lesson is consistent: the real blocker is usually organisational, and rarely the one on the risk log.

I now take that work beyond banking, into fast-growing businesses whose ambition has outrun their delivery machinery. The problem turns out to be the same. So, mostly, is the fix.

Based in Singapore.
